The Judge
The way Nick is protrayed is a theme throughout the book. In the beginning, Nick is shown as one of the only characters that reserves judgement on the people around him. This portrait of Nick is fuzzied by the fact that he does judge Tom when he first sees him in the book. Nick again contradicts this good judgemen when he confesses that "Dishonesty in a woman is a thing you never blame deeply -- I was casually sorry, and then I forgot." Although Nick wouldn't admit it, he does hold a double standard, excusing Jordan's shortcomings because of her gender. At the end of that chapter, Nick reveals his own sense of self worth: Of all the people he has known, he is one of the few who is honest. In many respects, this is true, and as the story continues, Nick's moral standard becomes more and more pronounced, but the very fact that he has dismissed Jordan's dishonesty makes the audience wonder, at least momentarily, whether this is true. In chapter four, Nick placed himself in a position in which he will have to come to terms with helping decieve Tom while bringing Gatsby's fantasy to life. Nick, too, is becoming more and more involved with Jordan and this, perhaps, clouds his judgement. If nothing else, this moment of passion makes NIck seem more human. He has needs and longings, just as everyone does. In addition, his agreeing to help Gatsby reunite with Daisy suggests he, too, has a bit of the romantic about him. His morality isn't as rigid as may have been initially supposed; these small acts of human nature help warm the reader to an otherwise aloof man.

Above the usual standards
Watching the Super Bowl is a pastime that almost everyone does. Whether it is watching the game and rooting for the team that you want to win, or to watch the halftime show, which is always exciting. For me though, a big part of the Super Bowl is the commercials. This year's commercials were extremely good. My personal favorite is the one where the small kid slaps the man who is trying eat his doritos and says, "Two things: Don't touch my mama, and don't touch my doritos." I feel that the commercials are a big part of the Super Bowl. It's the one time during the whole year where you don't want to fast foward through the commercials.
The commercials during the Super Bowl are also the most expensive commercials to advertise, another reason why they should be watched. People aren't going to pay over a million dollars to put out poor advertisement. They want people to remember the products they are advertising, so they create a funny commercial that people will remeber. For example, a couple years ago a commercial aired where a baby is talking about Etrade an online stock website. If this commercial where like any other stock commercial, no one would remember it. But because they advertisers thought of something originial, everyone remembers that commercial.
So whether you are watching the Super Bowl for the game, the halftime show, or the commercials, remember that lots of money was put into those commercials, so they are worth watching.

A Not Uncommon Pastime
I do not believe that drinking is right. I just think that for some people it is a nesscessity. Some people just can't get buy without having a drink now and then. Not to the point where they turn into alcholics, but just to ease the weight on their shoulders. I can see how it seems so appealing. They just need something to do to pass the time when they have nothing to do in their lives.
What I don't agree with is getting so drunk that you can't control your actions. People go and drink too much then they make fools of themselves. Even worse, some people decide to drive when they are drunk. That is when innocent people get injured or killed because of other people's stupidity. I even know some teenagers who drink too much. I also know how most of them are going to end up. I don't think that everyone who drinks is bad, but some people just take it too far.
It's kind of like smoking. If you want to do it, fine, but have consideration for the people around you. They may nor like any of your antics while your drunk. Just because you think your cool dosen't mean everyone else does. If you want to be drunk, hang out with other people who are drunk. My point is that if you do want to drink, try to keep it to a minimum for the sake of everyone around you.
